Niki Wheat's Environmental Issue

Okay everyone, I am calling in a favor...and it won't take much of your time... I mean it's not like I get up early every day to do you a favor and get you the surf report or anything right???? Okay, sarcasm aside... I really would like your help here. As a surfing community we need to ban together for change again, just like we did for Trestles. We all saw what the surf community could do, it is time to help out another issue... SHARK FINNING.

I am urging you to support, HR 5741, the Shark Conservation Act of 2008.

Each year, humans kill more than 100 million sharks worldwide. Sharks are highly vulnerable to pressure from human activities because of their slow growth and low reproductive potential.

Tens of millions of sharks are killed each year for their fins alone. Congress passed the Shark Finning Prohibition Act in 2000 to end shark finning in U.S. waters. However, a recent court decision revealed a loophole in the Act, and HR 5741, seeks to close this loophole and improve shark conservation and management.

The Shark Conservation Act of 2008 would require all sharks to be landed with their fins. In addition, it allows the U.S. to take actions against countries that do not have shark finning bans like the United States.

HR 5741, the Shark Conservation Act of 2008, would improve shark fishery management and promote shark conservation in U.S. waters and beyond. Please support this important legislation by cosponsoring the Shark Conservation Act of 2008 and by voting yes to enact this bill into law.

And one more thing, if you have not seen the movie "SharkWater" yet, it is time to get on the ball with this... I saw it over the weekend, it was a turning point for me. We can't let this go on any longer. Join me in the fight to save Sharks!

You can finally rent Shark Water on DVD. Netflicks has it, but I am not sure about other rental places. If you find it at other places email me and I will pass the info along. Also check out my blog about Why You Should Help Save Sharks. Click Here

Thanks everyone!

16th St. S. Cocoa Beach Waves at 8am

I put this photo on here for a couple reason:
1. I cut the dreads off, wanted to let y'll know that.
2. I want you guys to know who I am...so if you see me surfing, at the shop, shooting surf pics at the beach,
or around town feel free to stop me and say 'HI'

On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone out there that has helped with the growth and success of this surf report. Especially Ross from CFLsurf.com, Kenneth for the new layout, and Beak (my official surf report header designer). And thank you to everyone who sends their feedback, requests and suggestions. I really appreciate it!
Peace, Love and Swells,
Niki Wheat
